Miniature Husky Puppies For Sale And Adoption

By Kerri Stout

Several different breeds were used in breeding these miniature huskies. Both Alaskan and Siberian huskies were bred with small dogs of mixed breeds to create this new breed of dog. Individuals can now find miniature husky puppies for sale or adoption all over the world.

According to one Kennel Club, the Alaskan Klee Kai has been recognized as a full blooded breed since the late 1980s. The Alaskan Klee Kai or as its known by some, AKK, is a miniature husky. While a new breed, the characteristics of these miniature huskies are often the same as those of its larger counterparts.

There are basically three different sizes within the breed. These sizes are toy, miniature and standard. Weight of these dogs can be anywhere between 5 and 75 pounds. Heights vary depending on the different breeds from which a particular dog's parents were mixed.

Heights can range anywhere from 13 inches for a toy to 17 or 18 inches for standard size. Most often the size of height and weight is proportionate when it comes to the breed. As these are also strong dogs, it is often recommended that owners use a harness rather than a standard leash for better control.

The breed hosts a beautiful thick double coat. The coat provides the full furred appearance for which huskies have become known. If planning on showing a miniature husky, it is important to note that if the fur hides the physique of the dog, the dog will be disqualified. As such, it is important to prepare a dog's fur well ahead of showtime.

Also, when it comes to socialization of a husky, full or miniature, it is important to do so as soon as a puppy or dog is brought into the home. Depending on the behavior and temper of animals and babies, toddlers or other children, these dogs may or may not do well integrating. As such, it is often advised that families spend time both one on one and together with any new pet so as all can bond together as a growing family.

When not socialized from a young age, the natural instinct of huskies is to hunt and kill prey. The breed does not do well small animals or children. The antics of babies and toddlers, along with the noise, can often be too much for some. As such, it is recommended that when children are in the home to wait until about age five before introducing a mini husky into the environment.

Unless socialized at an early age, most miniatures are of a shy nature though hunting often remains a primal instinct. While this may come in handy for protection and survival, in other cases it can be dangerous. As all dogs transcended from wolves, it is important to recognize that any dog has the capacity to hunt, kill and defend itself when in danger.

Huskies make great watchdogs. In fact, Alaskan and Siberian breeds are considered some of the best watchdogs in the world. A breed that is loyal and aware is a combination that is hard to find. One that can provide protection and friendship, even more so.
