The Egyptian Mau can be described by most as a quite unique feline breed. It is a cat that most will say looks like a tiny leopard or even a lynx, due to its naturally occurring spotted patterns. It is probably the fastest domesticated cat, as it can run up to 30 miles per hour.

Many previous owners of this breed will swear to you and to anyone else for that matter, that it has springs and not legs. This is because it can jump vertically from a resting position up to three feet or more. It is also a very active and playful cat so one must make sure it has the necessary space to romp around in, alongside the absence of course of any fragile or breakable items.

A reserved and gentle personality will what many will describe as the general temperament of this breed. It is however, one cat that will crave attention a majority of the time, especially as it ages. If one plans to travel a lot with it or enter it into competitions in the future, it may be a good idea to let it socialize with other people so that jitters later on can be avoided.

There is a danger to overfeeding this breed, especially if one misinterprets its wanting affection and attention as something akin to it asking for food and such. The problem with overfeeding this cat is that once it is used to big portions, it will refuse to eat the smaller portions in the future. In effect, it goes on a feline version of a hunger strike.

A quite not so well known fact about this cat is that it knows how to sing. Rather than purr like most cats, it will also chirp and chortle like a small bird. They also do this singing of theirs when they are quite excited or curious about something, whether it be a new toy, or an insect that they see and chase, like a cockroach or even cricket.

63 to 70 days is the gestation period for this breed, which is quite long. One should not worry if it does go over 70 days though. This is because the cat gives birth fairly easily.
