Old English Sheepdog Breeders Are Just One Way To Get A Dog

By John Brown

You can't find a more loving dog than the Old English Sheepdog. There are a number of ways to get this dog, but Old English Sheepdog Breeders specialize in the breed, and are a great source to get one with a pedigree in which you can feel confident. It is not the only way to get one, but a good one. They tend to be a bit pricey, though.

An alternate way to get your dog is through a rescue. This dog has significant grooming, and it is very big. Many people expect a smaller dog when they get that little puppy, but it soon gets too big for them. It has a great personality, loyal and loving, but it does require frequent grooming, more than some people are willing to do, so they give it to a rescue shelter.

These dogs are very loving and very loyal, and are often attributed to herding a child to stay in an area that is appropriate. This gave them the descriptive name, "Nanny, " early on. But, as with any dog, they should not be left unattended with a child. There is no way of telling what might happen, say if the child were to hit it or get too rough.

This is a very large breed of job, with high maintenance requirements. These requirements include two needs. They need special grooming needs, and they need lots of exercise. They are not barkers, so would do well in an apartment, though if it is a small apartment, they may not do as well. All this should be considered before getting the dog, whether new or by rescue.

These dogs have many tasks at which they are diligent. They are good herders, great at performance of agility and obedience trials, and also adept at search and rescue exercises. They are very active and love to be kept busy. If not kept engaged, and left alone for long periods, they will get up to destructive mischief.

This dog has a thick, double coat, covering his very muscular build. He also has strong bones with a large rump. He has a large square head that has lots of room for a large brain that gives him great brain power and intelligence. He stands around 22 inches tall. His intelligence means he needs to be kept occupied to stay out of trouble. His eyes are brown or blue, or sometimes he has one eye of each color.

This dog runs with a bear-like shuffle, but are very nimble. They require regular exercise to keep their strong, able body in shape. They make great house dogs. They are watchful, courageous, kind, and intelligent. They are patient and protective with children, and make good watch dogs. They have a loud, ringing bark that makes them great as a watchdog, but do not bark excessively.

If you plan to get a rescue dog, it is important to understand what condition he may be in. He is wonderful, loving and loyal. However, many people who get this dog are surprised by its large size and its significant grooming needs. They often are so tangled that sores form on their skin. Many times they have to be completely shaved. There often is fecal matter and urine embedded in their fur, as well as a flea infestation.
