How To Take Your Dog Through A Puppy Potty Training Class

By Amanda Ellis

Once you buy a dog, it is wise to train it as soon as possible. This will sharpen the pup and make it respond to commands quicker. When you bring the dog to your home, the first thing is introducing it to its new home and family members. This is the perfect time to create a stable relationship with the dog. However, for the pup to learn, respect and trust you, it is wise to establish some expectations and being consistent with everything. Also, this is the ideal time to start a puppy potty training class to help it learn and respond to all commands accordingly.

Still and all, it is not possible to train a dog if you do not understand it. It is thus critical to learn and understand how the pup behaves. Research on the internet and read about your dog breed. Find out more about its unique character traits and anything special associated with the breed. For instance, some breeds like Chihuahua have quite small bladders. Thus, they have to urinate frequently compared to other pets.

Keep a watchful eye on the pup when you want to train it. Always be keen on behavior changes so that you can understand the signs. For instance, some dogs will start circling, barking and even sniffing when they want to defecate or pee. Watch out for such signs and take the pups outside immediately then command them accordingly.

Selecting a defecating spot is very essential. Thus, ensure you have selected a specific place in your compound for the pup to pee and poop. Take it there every time it needs to pee. The area you choose must be somewhat secluded and away from other pets. The dog will have a memory due to the smell of its urine. It will then relate the area to its peeing spot.

Choose a particular command for the pup whenever you take it to pee or poop. The dog will start to recognize that command and associate it with what you want it to do. Always use that command when you want them to defecate to avoid confusion.

Praising and rewarding the pet when it does it right will make it feel appreciated. This will make it want to do the right thing again and again so that it can be praised and rewarded. When praising the dog, use a cheerful or happy voice and reward it after it has used the spot appropriately.

If the pup accidentally pees in the house, ensure that you have cleaned immediately. Use enzymatic cleaners and deodorants to get rid of the urine smell. If you do not clean right away, the pet may use the area again. The urine smell may not go away, and this will make the pet remember it thus continue using the area.

It is never easy to tame a pup. Pups are very obedient though. Thus, it is upon you to bestow the right behavior. Consistency is the key here. Ensure that the commands you use for particular events are always the same. This way, the pup will not be confused.
