Basic Information On Mini Goldendoodles

By Margarita Joseph

Goldendoodles is a type of dog. These crossbreeds are made from the golden retriever and poodle. The name was first used in the early 1990s. It takes the word golden from the golden retriever and uses doodle to represent the poodle. Mini goldendoodles are a popular variation of this breed.

It was during the 1990s that breeders in Australia and North America began to cross standard poodles and golden retrievers. The purpose of this cross was originally an attempt to make dogs that would be suitable as guides for visually impaired people with allergies. This type of breed is sometimes known as a designer dog. This term dates back to the later half of the twentieth century, a time when purebred poodles were being bred with other purebreds in an effort to create a dog with the hypoallergenic coat of poodles and its other desirable traits.

Usually these are breed to be companies. They are good for families that may include one or more member with allergies. Sometimes they are bred to be assistance dogs, such as therapy or guide, for people who struggle with allergies.

An individual may choose to have this kind of dog because he or she loves golden retrievers but desires a dog that does not shed as much. Not all such goldendoodles have coats that do not shed like standard poodles. Still, the dogs are mostly known for their low shedding. Some breeders say that this breed is hypoallergenic, but no studies have been presented to prove the validity of such claims. It usually depends on which of the parents the dog takes after.

Like most other mixes, these dogs have different appearances. They tend to have different sizes, colors and coat types. The main types of coat: straight, curly, wavy. The curly type is on those who take after poodles, straight is those who take after retrievers. Those with wavy coats take the curls characteristic of poodles and the straight coat of the retriever.

Usually these dogs are sized between a retriever and poodle. They range between miniature, standard and medium. The miniature goldendoodles occurs only if the poodle parent was a miniature. Standard types weigh between 45 and 70 pounds as adults, medium kinds weigh between 30 and 45 pounds, and mini ones usually weigh between 15 and 30 pounds. Standard height for females is between 22 and 23 inches and 24 and 26 inches for male. Some of these can be as tall as approximately 28 inches.

The common coat colors for these dogs: white, apricot, red, cream and gold. The majority of them have the bump on their head that is characteristic of retrievers. The dogs are smart and therefore, easy to train. They are usually affectionate to other animals and people. Their nature is calm and easygoing. They are active animals and require regular exercise and activity. Goldendoodles are known for having good health, but may suffer with hip dysplasia, a condition that afflicts both parents breeds. Regular checkups with a veterinarian are recommended.

Mini goldendoodles are a type of goldendoodle, a hybrid of a golden retriever and poodle. These animals come in a variety of colors and sizes. The miniature types are the result of having a miniature poodle parent. In general, these animals are active, easygoing, friendly and ideal for people with allergies.
