Some people give their dogs away because of their bad behavior, but in most cases this can be avoided. A trained dog will be a healthy and happy member of your family. If you can spend some time and follow instructions, you can easily train your dog.

Make the dog know that the crate is it's home when you are doing crate training. When you feed him, feed him inside the crate, and keep the door open while he is in there eating. The dog will recognize the crate as having delicious food.

You must be willing to invest the time required for practice if you want your training to be successful. It will take up to 50 repetitions to learn a new command. Continue repeating the command patiently, and eventually your dog will understand it.

Do not give your dog too many treats; you could make him gain some weight when you offer an excessive number as rewards. When trying to feed their dogs a healthy diet, many people do not count the calories in the treats. These can add up fast.

You must begin your relationship with the dog as the boss for any training to be effective. He needs to know that you are the authority before he will let you train him. When walking with your dog, always walk first, never let your dog lead, as this is the leadership position.

Teach your dog no response is needed for the word 'no'. Find positive and supportive ways to train your furry friend. The word 'no' itself is not enough to make your dog understand they need to stop what they are doing. Each dog is unique and has unique requirements. Training should be geared towards their needs and personality.

Make sure you give your dog a good workout every day. Feed your dog a balanced diet, give them space to run, and provide them with activities that will burn energy.

Whenever you go for walk with your dog, keep your eyes peeled for other dogs. There are aggressive dogs, and not every owner is at fault. If you notice an aggressive or antisocial dog, keep your dog away from it.

Never reward bad behavior with the intent of quickly ending a certain behavior. This is sure to send the message that the dog has free reign and can control you. For example, if you give a treat to stop your dog from barking, you are teaching him to bark for treats.

Make sure you give your dog a good workout every day. It is important to provide dogs with the right type of food, space in which to exercise and a wide array of exciting pastimes.

Positive reinforcement is the best kind for dogs. Punishing your dog whenever he or she does something wrong is not always necessary. Instead, just ensure you aren't reinforcing bad behavior. Your dog can become skittish and frightened around you. Reinforcing good behaviors will cause the dog to work harder to please you and receive praise.
