Information About Contract Working Dogs

By Amy Taylor

The beginning of domestication of animals saw dogs being the first one to be allowed into peoples homes. Their warm companionship and eagerness to help have seen them being given an opportunity to help soldiers back in the war fields as military dogs. Though they could not be enough the department of defense benefited from the facts concerning contract working dogs.

Many people have limited information concerning this kind of dogs. Understanding them better needs one to understand how they came to existence. As mentioned above, initially these military dogs have been the help of soldiers. When they became scarce, there was no time to train new dogs that is why it was opted to enter into contracts with companies for these helpful animals.

These companies have a heavy task of ensuring that they train them to attain the recommended standards for military activities mainly. It is tough but the only way through. The training should cover rescue sessions, combat and also detection of hidden explosives. The animal can only be flown to their destination once they have mastered all these skills.

The animal will always remain to be the sole property of the company that has been given the contract. The military will never have the ownership. It is therefore expected for the soldiers only to provide the feeding of the dog and taking them to their kennels. It is the actual owner to ensure that the dogs welfare is well taken care of.

They are never accorded the care and attention that they deserve making them experience great sufferings. To begin with, they are employed dogs which mean they are only supposed to be working all through till the mission is over. In other cases, they are usually not granted the short break enjoyed by the military dogs which some how meant to fully cover the payment made to hire them.

The worst is when the dog becomes incapacitated by either an injury, sickness or even age. The user has no obligation of ensuring the animals goes back to the owner. It lies upon the company to keep track of how their canines are progressing and undertake the role of transporting them back home whenever they cannot work anymore.

If the dog due to insufficient training ends up deserting their masters, they will face the same known punishment of facing a death squad something that may not be their fault. There are instances when the company will not want to deal with a dog that cannot be of help to them. These animals are left in their kennels dejected.

The only existing solution to this suffering is the adoptions allowed for these dogs by families as pets. More interesting is that the procedure of making a contract dog yours is less demanding than that of a military dog. The only matter of concern is ones ability to tame the dog into becoming a reliable pet. The war environment and the training make them fierce, aggressive and less friendly.
