Searching For The English Bulldog Puppy For Sale

By Ryan Lee

Looking for a pet to buy involves some major considerations. Every dog breed has different pros and cons. You need to consider your wishes and what you are willing to undergo for a special breed. Looking for an English bulldog puppy for sale can be the answer to your wishes. However, before committing to this breed or any other, it is important to consider the good things and the bad.

Though they had a somewhat unsavory beginning, being breed for the sport of bull-baiting, they are overall a very gentle and loving dog. Bull-baiting was a sport where the dog grabbed a bull by the nose and hung on. They were bred to be very ferocious and to remain tethered to the bull and not be thrown off.

This sport became illegal in 1835 so the breeding of this dog leaned toward a gentle and loving dog. This has mostly became their personality trait now. The body shape was also breed for change to look like they do today, which was quite different in the past. For lovers of the breed, they are very appealing.

This medium sized dog weighs around 50 pounds and is very stocky. He has been bred over the years to have a mouth formation with protruding lower teeth. This gives him a humorous, endearing look. He has a straight, glossy coat that requires very little care and has very little shedding. The shedding is seasonal, so is not so much of a problem.

The breed does not require much exercise. In fact, it may even be detrimental to them. They also don't bark much, and are quiet overall. This, combined with the low level exercise, make them very suited to apartment living, with a daily walk for the small amount of exercise they require. They are good with kids, and with other dogs, so fit into a family well. Of course, when relating to other dogs and to children, it is important to keep them under supervision at all times, as it is with all dogs.

This breed has either a straight tail or a curly, corkscrew tail, with varying amounts of curl. The dogs with curly tails have more potential concerns, both in grooming requirements and with health issues. Straight tailed dogs have fewer health concerns, being basically a healthy breed. However, the curly tailed dogs have many health problems, sometimes serious ones. The attractiveness of the dog may make you willing to undertake the extra care required.

Though as a general rule bulldogs don'e have major health issues and are not extremely care intensive, they do have some things of concern. They have skin problems because of skin folds, necessitating daily cleansing and examination. The same holds true for issues with dental care, due to the mouth shapes. Any odors may indicate an infection in either place requiring treatment.

The curly tail, though attractive, can cause feces to become trapped and needs daily cleaning to prevent infection and odors. There is a very serious health with the curly tails. Due to spine defects associated with it, they often have a condition called Hemivertebrae. These malformed spinal bones associated with it can cripple the dog and cause significant pain. Surgery is also often required. This can cause increased care and expense for the dog.
