The Pick Of The Litter Silver Labrador Retriever Puppies For Sale

By Jeannie Chapman

When considering adding a furry four-legged member to the family, there are various options to be measured before heading to a breeder. Thinking about your lifestyle and the dog's lifestyle, is paramount to your choice. If your family includes young children, a well-mannered, gentle canine should be at the top of your list. If your family doesn't include children now, but will in the future, choosing silver labrador retriever puppies for sale for their tenderness and loyalty now is a great idea.

Although the AKC, American Kennel Club of America, does not identify this dog color as a retriever, a shiny gray lab is a true bird dog with strong bloodlines. Their reasoning behind the non-endorsement is their certification of chocolate color, which encompasses several shades including a glossy gray. This in no way diminishes the validity of such a breed.

Three colors under the silvery title recognized by Retriever clubs throughout the world include charcoal, light and a factored-silver. The factored-color includes black, chocolate and yellow dogs. A puppy deemed chocolate would be born to a parent of silver coloring but he or she is not silvery; however the baby carries the gene and can produce a litter of silvers when mated with another factored-silver or true gray.

An often reported inaccuracy about the color of these retrievers is there has to be Weimeraner in their bloodline. This type of guesswork has been put to rest when a large study was commissioned at a United States veterinarian medical university. Doctors found that the genetic makeup of retrievers and Weimeraners are completely different and a mixture is not located in the shiny-gray breeds.

Many believe all breeders are the same or choose the cheapest one on the list. The price of your new pup has little to do with the dog, how well it is bred, how it behaves and how healthy it is or will be throughout its life. A reputable breeder, one that will let you tour their breeding facility, is where the best dogs are kept. Secretive breeders have something to hide.

If your home is a small house or apartment, you will want to reconsider a lab. Due to their size and bountiful energy, this breed needs more room and a purpose. If they are not given something to do, a job, then your personal belongings become their business. They hunt your socks, purses, shirts and even an end table or two and terminate its existence.

Retrievers are classified in the sporting group and considered bird dogs. They were originally bred to help fishermen in Newfoundland. They would assist in catching fish that escaped from the nets as they were pulled in to the boats. Many years of cross-breeding with other Retrievers, Setters and Spaniels, today's lab is a real retriever of downed flying game and other small critters.

If you are adopting a dog, look into silver labrador retriever puppies for sale. A lab is one of the most trustworthy, gentle and devoted dogs there are today. You and your family will not only feel safe, you will have so much fun and endless love from a wonderful companion.
