4 Steps To Dog Happiness

By Garrett McMahan

Dogs are typically pretty content by nature and we more often think of cats when we think of cranky, unhappy animals. However, to ensure that your dog is truly the happiest furry guy on the block, here are a few important tips for his care.

1. A Well-Trained Dog Is Ideal

Dogs usually would prefer staying near you and even 24 hours a day or seven days a week, if given this chance. Dogs usually do not want being alone, thus bring your dog along with you, if this is possible. There can be some places where dogs are not allowed, but a reason why people leave their dog behind is because of the bad behavior usually exhibited by your dog. Thus, if you want to bring your dog along to many places, invest in dog training DVDs.

These are obedience training DVDs that can make it easy for you to teach your dog various skills, like dog leash trainings, teaching your dog not to jump on people, teaching them to stop barking when commanded, teaching them to sit and stay and also other skills. After you have completed this dog training, you will have the much safer dog, one that is behaved well and can be taken anywhere.

2. Dogs Need Exercise & Fun

All dogs need some level of exercise and most also enjoy some daily play time. Each breed and individual dog differs with their level of energy. Some dogs are fine with a daily walk and a few rounds of fetch, while others will enjoys walks and perhaps learning a sport such as dog agility or Frisbee play. Dogs also enjoy games such as tug or even hide and seek. Providing play time and enough physical activity keeps dogs from getting bored. A bored dog can become tense and destructive, especially if you have a breed of dog with tons of energy.

3. Groomer Makes Pets Look & Feel Better

Grooming your dog can be a chore, but it is an important one and a well-groomed dog tends to be more comfortable. Dogs need a bath about once each month, perhaps more if they are often outside playing. Talk to your vet about the best type of shampoo for your dog. Most dogs also need to be brushed several times each week to keep their coats shiny and free from tangles and matting. Most dogs enjoy being brushed and it can be a great way for the two of you to bond. In addition, you also probably will want to keep your dog's toenails trimmed and you need to learn how to clean and care for your dog's ears.

4. Schedule Those Vet Visits

A yearly physical checkup is needed, although it has to be noted also that your dogs need up-to-date vaccine shots. Your dog's overall health will be assessed and also will probably take some blood samples for checkup, and this is done during your visit to your veterinarian. For older dogs, the tests are important to look for signs of potential health issues, and this is how a blood test is important. A teeth cleaning schedule can also be done once a year or twice if this is needed, and this is when the visit is done.
