Things To Know About When Considering Poodles For Sale

By Stella Gay

Germany has long been thought to be the country of origin of the poodles. Whereas its origin is in Germany, its development into a breed that it is today took place in France. Hunting waterfowls was the initial reason why it was developed. However, that has change since then and it currently being used more as an ornamental dog than a hunting one. As such, it may be mistaken to be a weak and fragile dog because of its appearance and current use.

The breed resulted from interbreeding several kinds of water dogs from Hungary, Portuguese, Spain, Russia, France, and Germany. Other historians also link its ancestry to Northern Africa. Because the breed has become widely used in modern societies it is better to have an understanding about it before setting out to acquire one. This article gives some of the facts one needs to know before going for poodles for sale.

When making a purchase, the size of the animal is of great importance because it determines amount of space allocated, food consumed, and general care required. Toy, miniature, and standard are the three major size categories the dog can be categorized into. One should be informed that size variation does not change the breed type. Also, there is a slight variation in size among the males and females.

A toy-sized animal weighs between 6 and 9 pounds, the miniature weighs 15 to 17 pounds while the standard weighs 45 to 70 pounds. Males and female in the standard category vary in weight with males weighing more. The coat color varies significantly and could be silver, brown, white, black, gray, cream, apricot, or a combination of the various colors.

Unlike many other species of dogs that shade their coat occasionally, poodles stay with theirs forever. This presents a good feature against allergies. Ways for manipulating the hair include shaving, trimming, grooming, and clipping because of its curly, wiry, and dense nature. The styles one can manipulate into the hair for canines used in competitions are regulated by the organization in charge of the competitions.

Maintenance is the first issue one should consider before deciding to buy a poodle. They need regular grooming at the intervals of 3 to 6 weeks, which makes them high-maintenance. The coat may at times require more regular grooming if it has to remain in good condition. However, the high cost of grooming should not deter one from acquiring a poodle, because the coat can always be shaved.

As said before, the hardy nature of poodles makes them capable of surviving in just any kind of home. That includes estates and apartments. Provided they are given plenty of human companion and regular exercise, they should cope up well. Toys and miniatures prefer the indoor company of the family. Their trainability and fast learning ability make them suitable home pets raised inside the house.

Owners should be careful not to accidentally teach bad habits to the dog because that can happen quite easily. Seeking the services of professional trainer or seeking advice on how to go about with the training is a good idea. Be warned that skipping training will lead to a badly behaved dog.
