Doing Your Research Before Choosing A Bulldog Stud Service Is Important

By Cathy Mercer

There are many beautiful kinds of dogs. A breed that really stands out to most is the Bulldog. There are many people who breed their dog to preserve the bloodline of the dog by taking it to a Bulldog stud service. There are some things a person should know before going out and looking for an owner who has a mate.

When a person is looking to breed their dog, they are going to want to search for a breeder who looks out for the health of his or her animals. Many people make the mistake of looking at the dog and judging everything by the initial appearance of it. They must remember that just because it appears to be a beautiful animal, that doesn't necessarily mean that it is healthy.

Some of the things a person should look out for include jutted jaws or bow legs. When you are asking questions about their studs, they should be glad to answer you. It they seem like they have a problem answering questions, you may want to leave and choose another breeder to get your dog from.

There are breeders out there who operate in an unprofessional way. If they own a Bulldog and a boxer, they will breed them and tell others that the pups are full breed Bulldogs. There is nothing wrong with mixing two different breeds, the problem is when someone lies about it. They will most likely want to sell the babies as full breed dogs when in fact they are not. Usually, those who operate like this are backyard breeders. They do it for extra money to help them pay their bills and could care less about ripping people off.

A person should know all of the unique characteristics of a Bulldog. They should know that the nose is always black on a pure bred. They should also know that if the dog has pointy ears, there is a problem. The ears should instead be in a rosebud style and should fall to the side of the dog.

The dogs body formation, legs, chest and everything else should be inspected. If a person does not know what a 100 percent Bulldog looks like, they really should learn before going out to find a stud. Some breeders out there have dogs that they pass off as full bred when in fact they are not.

The most important thing to pay attention to is the family history of the dog. This includes the parents and as many generations down as possible. It is not uncommon for those who are good at what they do to keep a family chart on their dogs. Sometimes, they even keep pictures of the parents and grandparents of the dog in their log.

When you find a great Bulldog stud service, make sure that you read the contract that you will be signing. If no mating goes on, you will want to make sure that you get most of your money back. Chances are things will work out though and your dog will have healthy good looking pups, but it is always important to read the fine print.
