There are people who are not familiar with what the Australian Shepherd breed of dogs are. Australian Shepherds is a kind of dog breed known for their extreme smartness, enthusiasm and for being people-loving. Also known as "Aussie", they are known to require numerous amount of exercise making them appropriate to live with families that are active and loves to exercise. With a height of usually 18-23 inches and weight of 35-70 pounds, they are usually grown to guard their master's house or as cattle ranches.

This kind of dogs are known to be bred to herd which means they typically would attempt to herd everything and anything including squirrels, ducks and even people. They also have protecting instincts that are strong and they have this characteristic of wanting to be close to their masters all the time. With regards to their health, Australian Shepherds are known to usually develop conditions like deafness or hearing impairment, low vision and hip dysplasia that is why it is significant that they should be provided with proper attention and care to protect them from these conditions. Also, in order to build up power resistance in you Australian Shepherd's body, providing them with appropriate vaccination that they need is vital.

Being reserved when they communicate with people that they barely recognize is one characteristic of the Australian Shepherd. Aside from that, they are not known to be uncertain and afraid; rather they are confident and self-possessed. They are also known to be a good judge of character, aware of their surroundings and are aloof to strangers and new people. For them to be well-adjusted and more confident, you can bring them to outdoor family activities.

Australian Shepherds are known to be capable and ready students not only because they react better to training and constructive methods which are based on rewards including dog clicker instructions but they are also known to be good in dog sporting and training activities which include agility, fly ball and advanced dog obedience training.

Regarding their grooming, Australian Shepherds, same with any other breeds of dogs, must be kept and placed in a healthy and clean environment. Cleaning them requires the use of a firm bristled brush that is able to remove unwanted particles and hair from your dog's body. Since Australian Shepherds have double coats which are typically in moderate length and are medium coarse, proper brushing is required to remove tartar and plaques from the coat. Use of shampoo is conditioner is also necessary because of the kind of coat that they have. Aside from proper grooming for their coat, brushing and cleaning of your Australian Shepherd's teeth should be done at least twice a week to prevent the possibility of teeth loss and other dental diseases. Providing your Australian Shepherd with the necessary care, appropriate medication and sufficient nutritious food supply will help to ensure that they will live healthy and happy.
