Find Ragdoll Kittens For Sale To Give Your Child The Ultimate Playmate

By Etta Bowen

If you want your child to learn responsibility and compassion and have the perfect playmate, a pet is a great option. For a younger child you may want to consider something smaller, such as a cat that is easy to take care of. Not all breeds are child-friendly, though, but there is one breed that offers the perfect solution. Simply look for ragdoll kittens for sale.

The ragdoll is a relatively new breed. Purebreds normally have striking blue eyes and they can come in a variety of colors. They're fluffy but don't shed much, so you won't have cat hairs covering everything. They're also quite big and sturdy.

While ragdolls are incredibly cuddly in terms of their build and the softness of their coat, what makes them a really good option for children is their temperament. They're gentle and docile. Moreover, they're affectionate and love sitting on your lap. They're really like living teddy bears and some tend to go limp when you pick them up, almost like the toy that gave the breed its name.

You may want to consider getting two kittens rather than just one. They can then play with each other rather than bothering older pets and they'll find it easier to adjust to their new home. However, prepare a room for them where they will feel safe. You'll need to make it kitten-proof, though, just like you'd have to make a house child-proof for toddlers. Cords, electric cables and objects that can be knocked over are all hazards for playful little cats.

Also make sure that you have suitable food and drink for your kitten. Buy food that is specially formulated for kittens and has all the right nutrients. Remember that cats are carnivores and need to eat meat, so don't try to feed them a vegetarian diet. It may be tempting to give your kitten milk but dairy will upset its stomach. Instead, provide clean and fresh water and maybe kitten formula.

Your kitten will also need a litter box. Letting it do its bathroom business outside isn't always a good idea, because dogs and traffic can be hazards and your kitten can also wander off and get lost. Find a litter box with low sides so that it's easy for a tiny cat to get into it. The litter itself should be fine and preferably unscented.

Cats reach reproductive maturity at about six months. If you don't want the prospect of a whole litter of unplanned kittens, it's a good idea to have your female kitten spayed as soon as possible. Neutering is not only the responsible thing to do with a male but it will also prevent problems such as a cat that wanders all around the neighborhood and sprays on furniture.

If you simply want a pet rather than a show cat, you may want to considering adopting a rescue cat. Animal shelters often have kittens needing a loving home and older cats deserve a chance too. Some shelters may even specialize in breeds like the ragdoll.
