Information To Know Before Visiting French Bulldog Breeders

By Steven Adams

It may have come to your mind that it is time for you to get a new pet or even a replacement one. You may have set your mind on getting a dog, and are thinking of visiting some French bulldog breeders while you are in Ohio. But before you do make such a move, do read on in this short article to arm yourself with the necessary information before your purchase.

The breed is ranked as the sixth most popular dog in the United States, according to experts of the American Kennel Club. This is probably due in fact that it is quite playful and has an adaptable personality. It used to be a breed used for the blood sport of bull baiting, and widely dispersed in Europe by Phoenician traders. When the sport was made illegal, many unemployed bulldogs became household pets.

The dog is somewhat one that is addicted to attention, and it will demand its fair share from whoever is its master. Lacking such, it will go into a French death howl mode, wherein it will ululate eerily . It must also be noted that the females of this breed are very protective of their young and all that they care about, humans included.

Medium is the rating given to the energy level of this dog, and even though it is quite high, it is a breed that is quite happy being inactive for the better part of the day. Due to this, they can be great companions in small quarters such as condominiums or apartments. They will also need at least a half hour walk everyday for them to stretch and let off excess energy.

They are also closely related to the British bulldog, although being much smaller but having a wider body circumference or girth. They have smaller and shorter legs also and have ears that are constantly erect. They are much tamer and more docile than the English breed, and can thus be kept with other animals and even children safely.

Cataracts are something that this breed contends with as it gets on in years. Throughout its lifetime it will also have problems in terms of regulating its internal body temperature, as it has a compact airway coupled with a pug nose. It will not do to keep this pet in climates that are tropical or sub arctic in nature, for it can have fatal consequences.

Eight to ten years is the average lifespan for this bulldog, and so it goes without saying that it is not really that long. It can be extended somewhat if proper maintenance is followed and a fairly strict nutrition regimen is instituted. Your veterinarian should be able to point you in the right direction regarding this.

In short this article has shown some things that you should be aware of when taking on this breed as a possible pet and companion. It takes a lot of responsibility and commitment to take on any pet so do arm yourself with the necessary information beforehand.
