This breed of dog will be a breed that will not come cheap if you are a first time buyer. Prices will range anywhere, in American dollars, of one thousand eight hundred to three and a half thousand per puppy. The price variations of course depends on its bloodline and if it is champion stock. Since it is not a cheap pet, you must definitely prepared in terms of its upkeep and such.

In general, the adult females and males will respectively achieve standard weights of 5.9 kilos to 8.2 kilos, which roughly converts to about somewhere between thirteen to eighteen pounds. This spaniel is not a very big dog either and will achieve only around eleven to thirteen inches in length. Due to this size it is classified as a sporting toy breed, for it does have sporting and toy dog characteristics and personalities.

Since this is a toy breed, it is one that craves a lot of human affection and proximity. It just has to be near someone or at least on the top of a lap of someone, it being basically a lap dog. It is highly dependent on companionship so it cannot be left alone for extended periods or it will become anxious. This separation anxiety will make it stressed and it will chew things to destruction.

As for the sporting characteristic of this breed, it is very active and will like to run around a lot. It loves to chase things, especially other small animals such as chipmunks, mice and squirrels, and low flying insects even. When it is in chasing mode, it will ignore its surroundings and will run into open roads or even into wooded areas. Thus it is always best to be kept on a leash or at least in a fenced in area due to this.

It must be taken into account that the fur of this breed is not hypoallergenic and will trigger any known dog allergies. Its fur, being long and fine, is also prone to matting and infection around the anal and back areas. It is imperative that it be brushed at least once a week and trimmed regularly also.

As the dogs are quite responsive to praise and quite playful, they are also quite easy to train. Their temperament and demeanor can be said to be amiable and affectionate to anyone that they do come into contact with. In fact they can be said to be quite polite in almost all occasions.

This breed will have its share of medical complications and conditions as it gets older. This will include hernia and heart problems, as well as specific eye and knee problems also. Definitely you need to be prepared for vet visits once these dogs come of age.
