Everyone of us wanted our dogs to behave in all situations. No matter how caring and affectionate they are but once they are piss off, the animal instinct in them will take over. Saluki is one of the oldest known breed of domesticated dog and is ancient Persian Greyhound. They may look fragile but they are well known as good hunting dogs and sight hounds. They go with a variety of colors from fawn, silver, white, red and cream. They look like Greyhounds but it is easy to tell them apart from the feathering on the tails, ears and on the back of their legs. They go by the name of Gazelle Hound and also known as the royal dog of Egypt.

The name Saluki came from an ancient Arabic city with the same name. This dog is regarded as a sacred gift from Allah by the Muslims. One few animals in ancient Egypt who has religious implications and can sometimes be seen mummified with the pharaohs. The primary role these hounds in ancient times are to hunt gazelles, antelopes, fox and some hare.

Undoubtedly, they are graceful to look at and elicit more femininity. That sleek presence that they have indicates speed. You can no longer all the four legs they have when they are at the best speed and looks like they are floating in the air. Weathered terrain and extreme distance will never be an issue for them because of their innate endurance and hunting instinct.

They are known to be gentle and affectionate but may act aloof sometimes. They are naturally quiet and usually only howl with high pitched tone when they feel that something is wrong or they are want attention. They sometimes become attached to just one person in your family.

If at times they need peace and quiet they usually just find an area for them. They may seem inactive indoor but once they get out a burst of energy will surely be exhibited. Notably, they get along fine with little children and other dogs.

One of the hard part of training Saluki is making them to ignore the hunting impulse they have. These instincts have been with them thousands of years so it will take a little while to make them to listen to you. They do particularly well with visual training methods and combined with verbal commands because they are sight hounds. Be reminded not to be harsh on the training as these dogs can be very sensitive. Shouting will not work as well as the reward system.

Notably, they are very intelligent canines so they will easily get bored with repetitive training. Remember to keep the trainings short and frequent. They are an active type so a lack of exercise makes them restless and destructive indoor. They need obedience training to keep their hunting instinct under control.
