Importance Of Using Flea Control Boric Acid At Home

By Coleen Torres

Boric acid is used to control fleas in homes. It is not expensive and contains very low level of toxins. It may be in powder form having other ingredients such as borate, sodium borate and Orthoboric acid. This acid acts as herbicide, insecticide and fungicide and cause dessication, removes moisture from fleas thus leaving them to die out of dehydration.Borate is normally odorless so when fleas go back to the treated places constantly, hey will eventually die. Therefore flea powders which have borate are somewhat safe to be used to get rid of fleas from your home without the risk of toxins of other pesticides or even their smell. So how can one use flea control boric acid to kill fleas at home?

In order to use this chemical, ensure that the room is a vacuum by removing all the items like dog beddings, clothing and area rugs. Clean around the baseboards and the bottoms of the cabinet in the room.

Before applying the powder on the baseboards, the applicant should shake well the canister bearing the fleas. After such, one should apply it in the closet and subsequently in the lower of the cabinet. Crevices must be checked to ensure they have the powder and that little or no powder remains on top of the surface. If little chemical is on the surface, it should be vacuumed.

In houses with carpets and covered floors, a light coating of borate should be applied. The canister is well shaken, in sideways motion. Areas where a pet likes to lay or stay or lives should be prioritized when administering proper treatment of the same. The applicant should brush the powder very deep into the fibre of the mat using spiky brushes or push brooms or even where possible, use stiff powder until a point where no substance is seen.

Apply the powder deep into furniture like the bottoms and areas where the arms meet the seats. To get the chemical into the crevices, use a brush or a hand broom. In case there are removable seat cushions, the flea powder should be applied underneath them. Any powder that can be traced on the surface of the furniture should be vacuumed.

After the clean-up process, the vacuum bag must be disposed outside the house and far from reach of children and pets. Sealing should be done for removable dust cups from the vacuum and the routine of vacuuming should be redone a day after.

Boric remains the most effective chemical ever developed to control fleas. These insects survive on the blood they get from their hosts mostly animals and pet such as dogs and cat. They also feast on human blood.

It is effective even in very small amounts and will retain its potency given that its deposits remain dry. Though deadly to fleas, it is much more non toxic to pets, people and non target animals. In humans specifically, its toxic levels are slightly higher than table salt but it is absolutely important to be cautious when being used around children and pets. It contains no volatile solvents and is odorless. Fleas will succumb to this acid by simply crawling over areas that are treated.
