Allergy Sufferers Find Hypoallergenic Dogs To Be Loving Pets

By Gary Stone

For a lot of people, having a pet in the house means dealing with issues such as itchy, watery eyes, sneezing, choking, or sometimes even hives. In order to combat this they usually either avoid animal companionship or load up on analgesics and antihistamines to help control the symptoms. However, there are several types of hypoallergenic dogs that could be an answer to their problems.

When a person suffers pet allergies, it is not the animal itself that they are reacting to. Their allergy is actually sparked by the dander that is created by shedding. Thankfully, there are more than 20 breeds with a shed factor that is so low it is virtually nonexistent, making them prime companions.

No dog is totally allergen free, though there are quite a few breeds that produce such small amounts of dander that those with allergies are not affected. These animals also have the added feature of not leaving hair on the furniture around the house that requires frequent cleaning. With so many great options, everyone can find the most suitable canine companion.

One of the most popular breeds for allergy sufferers is the Poodle, which comes in three size categories - Toy, Miniature, and Standard. They are known for being extremely intelligent and highly responsive with a great sense of obedience. They also have the bonus of being virtually odorless, which means there is no smelly dog aroma permeating the home.

With its irresistibly cute face featuring very large, dark, and expressive eyes, the Bichon Frise is another very popular choice among those with allergies. It is a small dog that has either wavy, or tightly curled fur which is normally kept in a puppy cut to make maintenance easier. They love to play, are not afraid of water, and crave socialization.

The Yorkshire Terrier has a very soft coat that practically has no shedding at all. Yorkies are small, but very confident and are known for being incredibly loyal companions, learning commands easily though they are quite energetic and need to be played with or exercised often in order to get rid of some of the excess energy. These pups are very well-suited for any living conditions from small apartments to huge homes.

Labradoodles are very popular among people who prefer canines of the larger size. This unique blending of Labrador and Poodle is a fairly recent crossbreed so they should be purchased from a breeder who is both experienced and reputable to ensure that the chosen puppy has the low shed factor. These playful and naturally friendly animals make incredible family pets and personal companions.

With so many varieties from which to choose, those who thought they could not own a pet because of allergies now have a lot of different options. Before making a selection, take time to learn about each of the different breeds to make sure that the animal's general behavior and personality characteristics are compatible with those of the individual. Now everyone can breathe easy without any discomfort while enjoying the companionship of their loyal canine friend.
