A Responsible Cavachon Breeder Is A Reliable Source

A Cavachon breeder breeds litters to produce the low shedding coat of the good natured Bichon Frise and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. This hybrid was bred for the first time in 1996. The parent breeds have a long history of being beloved companions of their human owners.

Unlike a mutt, designers breeds like the Cavachon are produced by special breeding programs to deliver certain desirable characteristics. The selection of the Bichon as a parent means its low shedding trait is a key desired attribute. As a cross breed, it is healthier with a more replenished gene pool than pure breeds.

Cavaliers have a recorded history of being the beloved household pets of the English aristocracy. Their 1956 arrival in America was entered into records. This toy breed has a well deserved reputation for being sweet natured. This gentle species is a pleaser. Aggression is not part of its temperament. Anyone looking for a guard dog will be disappointed in its hybrid descendent.

A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has a coat of four primary color variations. There is a chestnut Ruby tone. Another variation is the Blenheim mix of a chestnut tone separated by white hair. There is a Tricolor variation, which has a black and white combination in the main with some tan markings. A Black and Tan is jet black with tan markings. The silky hair tends to wave rather than curl. This small canine is typically no higher than 13 inches high and no heavier than 18 pounds in weight.

A Bichon Frise is another active small breed with a muscular build, a double coat, , a curled tail and a friendly temperament. It is typically approximately 11 lbs in weight and approximately 12 inches in height. The bloodline is a combination of Poodles and Water Spaniels. Spanish sailors were early in appreciating the companionship provided by these dogs. French royalty later also developed a liking for their affectionate personality. The dogs of this variety have dark brown eyes full of curiosity, an inherited feature Cavachons. The top layer of the coat is rough with a tight curl. The hair is white, although apricot, buff and cream shades may also be present. When groomed it has a canine likeness to a cotton ball. This activity loving sport needs exercise.

Cavachons range between 10 and 15 inches in height and between 10 and 25 pounds in weight. Being a hybrid, there could be some deviation. But, this will not be a broad deviation from the norm.

Typical shades are tan, sable, white, black or a mix of the same. The hair is normally silky in texture with a wavy and loose quality more reminiscent of the Cavalier. But, the coat should have the low shedding trait of their French named ancestor and they will share the same appealing eyes. Life expectancy will be similar to that of the parent breeds, usually between ten and twelve years. . First generation crosses more reliably possess the low shedding trait of the Bichon Frise coat.

There will some shedding when puppy hair is replaced by adult hair. Regular combing is required, especially as the hair grows out as it has tendency to tangle. There will be fewer tangles with regular combing. This means it will take less time. A metal comb is a more efficient detangling tool than brushes for this hybrid. This crossbreed should not be left alone for long periods. A Cavachon breeder will be a good source of information about your new pet.
