Designer Puppies From Cavachon Breeders

By Helga Stokes

If you're looking for an adorable little ball of fur with a gentle personality, look no further than Cavachon breeders. The puppies are bred from a pairing of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Bichon Frise. Mixing 2 distinct bloodlines reduces the health problems associated with the inbreeding of purebreds. The American Canine Hybrid Club maintains a registry for this new designer dog.

The first pairing was in 1996 but there's already a Cavachon Club of America. Expect this little dog to be energetic and playful, but not restless or destructive. They crave and need attention and companionship. They can be a variety of colors. Most common are white with black or black and tan markings, apricot and white, and all white. Hair is long, wavy, soft and silky. Full grown Cavachons weigh 8-20 pounds.

This hybrid is perfect for just about any family as long as someone is available for companionship and play. They're friendly, good with kids, and good with other pets including cats. They are gentle, affectionate, playful, easy to train, and easy to housebreak. Their not problem barkers so they can be a good choice for apartment dwellers. Their small size, 8-20 pounds full grown, lets this dog fit into any living situation including apartments and recreational vehicles. They enjoy play and can be exercised with indoor games as well as outdoor activities. When not playing, they will follow their humans everywhere and love a lap to nap on.

Some people say that designer dogs are just mutts. That's not true. Today's breed was once a cross between 2 or more breeds with a desired outcome. That's all a designer dog is. Purebred dogs have such a limited bloodline that many inherited diseases plague each breed. With careful breeding of 2 healthy purebreds from different bloodlines, hybrid vigor can be restored.

Many people with allergies are able to own and enjoy a Cavachon. They're low to non-shedding with long silky and wavy hair. This breed usually enjoys grooming if introduced to brushing and hair care while still a puppy. As the puppy matures, the hair is thicker and longer and matting can be a problem. Their hair can be clipped into a short, stylish, cute, and easy to care for hairdo.

Restoring hybrid vigor does require a careful pairing of 2 healthy parents. Reputable Cavachon breeders will research, health test, and provide documentation on the parent dogs. Most include a health evaluation and guarantee, and a puppy return clause in the contract. Ask for a health certificate for your new puppy. Be sure you know if your new puppy has been vaccinated, and what vaccinations are needed in the near future.

Great Cavachon breeders will always raise the puppies in the home, the first step in socialization. Ask the breeder about their experience with Cavachons and the parent breeds. Ask about the lineage of the parents. Know if neutering and/or spaying is a requirement of the purchase. If possible, it's always best to visit and meet the parent dogs as well as the puppies.

Cavachon breeders strive to find forever homes for their precious little puppies. They ask questions of potential buyers to be sure they have a lifestyle that's suitable for this attention loving little dog. They'll ask about lifestyle, family, and other pets. They can offer tips for integrating your new puppy into your family and lifestyle.
