Ragdoll Kittens For Sale California

By Rhea Solomon

Cat lovers agree. Ragdoll kittens for sale California are charming, beautiful, affectionate, adaptable, easy to love and care for. Ragdolls love their human companions. They come when called. They play gently without using their claws. They play fetch. They are so relaxed when held that they go limp like a rag doll.

A word of caution. This must be an indoor cat only. Their calm and docile nature puts them in great danger in the outside world. They don't have the survival skills that prompt other cat breeds to run from fast moving cars or attacking dogs. Their unusually placid and unperturbed nature makes this a great indoor only family pet. They love kids and strangers, other cats and dogs. They follow their family from room to room, always on the lookout for a lap to sit on. They run to the door when they hear the doorbell. Like a companion dog, this sociable feline wants to share your life.

Kittens are born white with color patterns showing after 10 days, reaching full color around the 2 year mark. They can display 1 of 4 patterns; bi-color, van, mitted, and colorpoint. There are 6 colors; seal, blue, chocolate, lilac, red, and cream. Pointed means that the body is lighter in color than the points (face, legs, tail, ears).

Breeders and breed associations disagree as to what is a purebred Ragdoll. Cats with solid colors, mink colors, and/or aqua eyes, are not recognized by most of the registries. If you're purchasing a cat to breed or show, research these issues carefully to be sure you're getting a cat suitable for your future plans. No one suggests the personality is any different in these less acceptable colors, so if you're looking for a family pet, color preference can be your guide.

They have blue eyes. They're large and muscular with semi-long hair. The hair is plush and silky with little shedding or matting. Females weigh 10-15 pounds. Males weigh 12-20, sometimes up to 30 pounds.

The Ragdoll breed was developed by Ann Baker of Riverside, California in the 1960's. She noticed a neighbors cat produced unusually docile and affectionate kittens. She borrowed Josephine, a Persian-like cat, and bred her to a Birman-type male. She bred the 2nd generation to a Burmese, breeding for temperament and beauty. She started the International Ragdoll Association setting breeding standards and forbidding registration with other registries. The IRCA remains active but is no longer the only association recognizing and setting standards for the breed.

A short list of major associations that recognize this breed includes American Cat Fanciers, Cat Fanciers Association, Association of Cat Enthusiasts, United Feline Organization, and The International Cat Association. Major breed clubs are Ragdoll Fanciers Club International, Ragdolls International, and Ragdoll Fanciers Worldwide. There are many others in the U. S., Canada, and the UK.

Reputable breeders will DNA and health test Ragdoll kittens for sale California. A health guarantee should be included in the contract. Kittens will be 12-16 weeks when they're released to their new homes. Usually they've had their first set of inoculations. Litter registration and blue slip should be provided when you pick-up your precious new companion.
