Buying New Horse Riding Products

By Angela Briggs

Almost every little girl dreams of having her own pony to love and ride. Because of the immense popularity of horses many young people take lessons and learn how to brush, saddle and care for their mounts. Equestrian sports provide a huge variety of events to participate in, ranging from small local shows all the way to national and international level competitions. Every rider will need to get kitted out with some basic horse riding products.

Anyone who is around horses should have safety as their top priority. Most equines are very gentle animals, yet if they are startled they can unintentionally injure people. Even the most experienced of riders will take a fall sometimes. Having all the right equipment can help to keep people safe and minimize the damage in the event of an accident.

Riding helmets are one of the best sellers. They are a very important piece of equipment especially for children and those who are participating in fast or competitive events. There are sizing charts available to help the shopper find the correct size. If there are additional questions the customer service department is always on hand to help. These friendly and knowledgeable staff can be a great help especially for those who are new to the sport and may not be sure what they need.

There is a huge range of helmets in many different styles. Some are specially designed for competition purposes. The everyday helmets are usually sufficient for most children and adults who are going to the barn a few times a week. Even a beginner should have their own helmet as one that has been in an accident may be compromised and no longer safe to use. Most tack stores sell good helmets for around fifty dollars.

Riding pants come in a variety of forms. The traditional English riders wear jodhpurs or breeches. These are tight fitting but comfortable pants that usually have suede knee patches for extra grip. Today they are usually made of a polyester and cotton blend which makes them stretch to fit every shape and size of rider. They are also very easy to care for and can be machine washed and tumble dried. However it is always important to read the care label of every item before laundering it.

Traditional English equestrian clothing was stiff and difficult to care for. Many of the items had to be hand washed and line dried. Today's modern fabrics are a total contrast. They are machine washable, dryer safe and much more comfortable to wear. Breeches are made in lots of colors, blue or black for everyday wear and beige or white for the show ring.

Show clothes are a big purchase for most riders. Each disciple has its own distinct turn out and a rider may require a change of outfit for each different class. This is often the case with western events where bright outfits and coordinating accessories can really catch the judges eye.

Horse riding products are available to purchase from local retail stores or from big on line companies. Shoppers should take their time to really look at all the options to find something that meets their needs and is within their price range.
