The Best Giant Schnauzer Breeders

By Georgia Diaz

You will probably find numerous Giant Schnauzer breeders in your area. The breed was created in the seventeenth century in Germany. It still isn't clear which breeds were used, but they most certainly include Standard Schnauzers, Rottweiler, Boxer and Great Danes. The point was to create good, reliable working dog with dense, curly, weather and pest bites resistant fur.

Pure breed Giant Schnauzers can be solid black or salt and pepper. Salt and pepper color looks gray, but it is actually a combination of black, gray and white hair. These dogs aren't really giants, they are 25,5 to 27,5 inch tall, females even smaller, but they look big when compared to Standard and Miniature variations. All three are recognized breeds.

This lovely dog has distinctive beard and eyebrows. Its water resistant fur is curly and especially dense and wiry. Show dogs usually have cropped ears. This breed requires regular grooming. The coat needs to be clipped, and in case of a show dog, regularly stripped, approximately once in two weeks.

Bred as a work dog for generations, this dog is quiet and obedient, very loyal and especially devoted to its owner. He can become very good guard dog or police dog, but, properly educated, also a perfect family dog. If you are an active person, and live in a house, you should consider buying this lovely dog.

This breed is prone to different diseases, and the skin is especially sensitive. You should use very mild shampoos, gentle enough not to cause skin allergies. Hips and elbows are quite sensitive, too. Possible heart diseases and diabetes are also quite common. Eye glaucoma and cataract are also quite common, especially in older dogs.

This active dog has sound and reliable temperament. Energetic and territorial, he really is loyal and has a great need to protect his owners. On the other hand, he is very gentle and responsible with children, and can make just perfect family dog if you treat him on the right way.

Schnauzers need plenty of exercise to remain healthy, strong and obedient. They require very long walks or the opportunity to play outside for hours. It might be a good idea to have another dog to keep him company, if you don't have enough time to satisfy his exercise needs. Bred as a work dog, he will be very happy if you give him some kind of job to do.

Giant Schnauzers are dominant dogs, and you need to be very firm when training them. Dogs need to live in a pack, and to know who is the leader. You have to be your pet's leader, and make it perfectly clear. Gentle consistency is the best method for transforming your lovely new puppy into a perfect family dog.

Experienced Giant Schnauzer breeders will give you all important details about feeding, grooming and training your new family member. Having a dog is a wonderful thing, but also a great responsibility. You have to understand your pet's needs and take a really good care of him. This wonderful animal is certainly worth every effort.
