Teacup potbelly pigs are also referred to as mini potbelly s, micros, and other names. If you are interested in bringing one home to your family, you need to weigh your options first to make sure that this type of animal would be a good fit for your family. Once you commit, a pig can live for up to twenty years so be sure that your family is in it for the long haul. Too many times, new owners cannot handle the demands of these wonderful creatures and give them away to a foster family or shelter where they get adopted out to farms or go to less fortunate places.

The size of a pig can range depending on the size of both mom and dad. It is hard to predict the size that a pig will be when they grow up. When teacups are first born, they are small enough to fit inside of a teacup, hence the name however as they grow, they do gain weight and size so they can no longer fit into a teacup. This is sometimes misleading to those who are expecting them to stay the size to fit into a teacup for their entire life but just like everything else, they grow.

If anyone in your family suffers from pet allergies, you can feel better about the decision to get a potbelly because they do not cause allergies. Unfortunately, when people see a pig, they think about those bigger piglets that run around in dirty mud eating all kinds of sloppy foods that are thrown into their trough. This is certainly not true with these piggies. They like a clean environment.

Your pig needs training immediately upon arrive. Start with the basics like litter box training and walking. Fit them for a harness and get them use to it. Offer food and water often.

It is necessary to walk your pig daily so they can get enough exercise. Of course, since their legs are short, you may need to walk at a slower pace so they can keep up without running. When they feel frisky, they will take a few running fits and entertain you for a while.

Pigs drink a lot of water so allow him or her to have access to water most of the time. Food should only be offered about two to three times per day. Once they walk away from their bowl, put it up until next feeding.

When choosing a leash for piggie, you need one that is comfortable and fits right. You need to maintain control of your pig when you walk though so do not get one that is too loose. It is important to walk your mini at the same time every day. Pigs love to keep the same schedule every day.

Teacup potbelly pigs are great to have as a pet. They are loving creatures that can be wonderful to raise for the family. When considering one from a private seller, be sure to see the parents before you give them any money. Be sure to ask questions as well.
