Beautiful And Clever Mi-Ki Dogs

By Serena Price

Mi-Ki dogs were first presented sometime in the late eighties. They are a cross breed between Maltese, Papillon and a Japanese Chin. Shih Tzu is probably one of the ancestors as well. Unfortunately, there is no reliable data on the share of individual breeds. Nevertheless, these small, sweet puppies are simply irresistible.

They come in two variations, as long haired and smooth haired dogs. Long-haired subtype has a long, soft, feathered hair on the ears, tail and other parts, including beard and mustache, and looks similar to Maltese. Smooth haired variation has hair of medium length, without a long beard and mustache, and with fringing on the ears.

Shorter, smooth hair type might have respiratory problems, but these dogs are otherwise quite healthy and they live very long. They both need regular combing, and only occasional baths, when absolutely necessary. Show dogs have certain requirements, but pets don't. So, you can remove some hair from their feet to ease the maintenance.

There are no limitations in coat colors, and all colors are accepted, including different markings. They do have one thing in common, both variations keep their tails and heads up. Smooth type doesn't require trimming, and long haired type can, but don't have to be trimmed. Each type is in its own category on shows.
