Using Australian Labradoodle Therapy Dogs

By Judy Sullivan

Australian labradoodle therapy dogs mostly are used because of the keen sense of smell they have and their gentle temperament. They are very calm animals and are good with kids. Of course they are the just precious pups too. Service dogs also have to have special training. The training begins at a young age, usually at about six or eight weeks old.

Service animals are trained for doing different types of things like working with the deaf and blind. They also work with senior citizens, autism patients, and other people with mental or physical handicaps. The most compatible service animals are the ones that have the most human contact as puppies. Breeders are good at determining which dog has the personality and the temperament for certain people with specific disabilities.

When you are picking a service dog you have to let the breeder of the dogs know what it is you expect from the therapy dog you are buying. You usually pick the therapy dog while it is still a puppy so that it can be trained to do all the things that you have requested of the breeder. If you want your therapy dog to do anything special the breeder will train your dog to do exactly what you want it to do.

There are even service dogs for children with diabetes. These dogs are trained from birth to learn to smell low and high blood sugars. Diabetes service dogs are fairly new but they are amazing service animals and have saved numerous lives of children. Service dogs of any kind are so well trained that when they are on duty they know their job and they do not detour from that job.

The Australian labradoodles are amazing therapy animals. A therapy animal is an animal that is specially trained to go into mental hospitals, nursing homes, hospitals, prisons, and even adoption homes to help brighten up the peoples day. Some people also believe that these animals help heal the patients but that has never been proven.

A service dog has to pass a test and requirements so that they can go into these places to visit people. They have to have special training that includes following commands, letting strangers pet and touch them, they also have to be able to handle crowds and chaotic situations. They also have to refrain from jumping on people.

Because of the sense of smell these pups have they are wonderful for people that have seizures because the dog can smell if the person is about to have a seizure so that they can warn their owner that a seizure is coming on. There are even service dogs that can be trained to retrieve medication for their masters if they can't get up to retrieve it themselves.

Australian labradoodle therapy dogs are definitely the dog you want to think about getting if you plan to buy a service dog. You will love your dog and your dog will love you. They are also wonderful with children and even adults.
