Resorting to some natural flea control solutions is a great way to get rid of those pests. They can be eliminated through a few simple approaches without endangering dogs. What's more, non-toxic methods help ensure that the whole family is safe from harm, especially dog-loving kids. There are various ways to repel and kill off fleas in an effective yet safe way.

So many types of products for such problem are available commercially. However, a lot of dog lovers steer clear of them. It's no secret that the active ingredients they use can actually do more harm than good to your beloved canine. Even though they are excellent flea killers, the fact is they can jeopardize the health and even the life of dogs as well as humans who pet them.

Many of these harmful solutions contain highly toxic active ingredients. When powders, shampoos and sprays containing them are ingested by the pet or used in the wrong manner, it's possible for the dog to end up with nausea, convulsions as well as respiratory arrest. All of these scary side effects are not only limited to animals as they may happen to humans too.

It isn't surprising why a lot of pet owners these days prefer to go for non-toxic solutions for keeping fleas in check. They are just as effective as commercially sold products but do not pose a risk to canines and humans as well. Many of these 100% natural solutions can be concocted at home, giving pet owners the assurance that nothing can harm their dogs and family.

Opting to go the non-toxic approach is usually easier on the budget. Perhaps one of the cheapest ways to combat those tiny pests is by sprinkling salt on places where they lay eggs and multiply, such as in areas frequented by dogs. The salt should be allowed to stay there for about three days to dehydrate and kill eggs before vacuuming. Another alternative is spraying those areas with a solution consisting of equal amounts of water and vinegar.

Essential oils make for wonderful repellents. The way they smell makes those tiny bugs stay away from dogs. Some highly effective ones are peppermint, orange, eucalyptus, lemongrass, lavender and tea tree oil. The dog owner may mix 5 to 10 drops of the chosen essential oil with a cup of water. After transferring in a spray bottle and shaking, the solution should be applied on sheets, kennels as well as on dogs. It's important for the pet owner to be aware that certain essential oils are actually poisonous to cats.

A very simple infestation remedy is placing a bowl full of soapy water below a light source at night. When those bugs get attracted to the light, they end up drowning in the solution. Another way to ensure that dogs are free of those pests is by using a flea comb regularly. Each time, it has to be dipped in soapy water to kill off the bugs caught by the fine-toothed tool.

There are various natural flea control approaches available. With them, you don't have to shell out lots of money for an effective solution. More importantly, there's no need to fear for the lives of your pet and loved ones.
