Animals Asia - Fighting For The Ethical Treatment Of Moon Bears

Animals Asia was founded in 1998 with two different missions - to protect animals against cruelty in Asia and promote a new era of compassion and respect for animals around the world. The foundation was created by Jill Robinson as a response to the need for a bear rescue center in Chengdu, China. This need has been developed after the Sichuan Forestry Department signed an agreement with the Association of Wildlife Conservation in China to release 500 bears bear bile farms with the worst conditions. It was the first time a Chinese government agency has entered into a formal agreement with the animal protection organization. It proved to be the perfect time to begin to address the question of the horrible practice of bear farming in China.

Since its inception, the Foundation has developed three main programs: End Bear breeding, cat and dog welfare and the fight against cruelty. In these programs, there are many campaigns, including the campaign to save the moon bear.

At that time, the foundation has about 250 bears rescued, both in China and in Vietnam sanctuaries. Over the years, rescued a total of 350 bears. They also closed 43 Chinese farms and see 20 of the 31 provinces in mainland China become free farm bears.
