A small wire inside the detonator, called the bridge wire, becomes heated by electricity, which in turn could detonate the explosive. Radio frequency will cause the explosive to detonate before it is due.

An electrical detonator will need to be protected from static. If power is sent through the bridge wire, there could be an explosion. The wire acts in a similar way to a light bulb when it encounters electricity. For a while it will be fine, letting go of the heat, but in time it will become hot enough to trigger the explosion. The purpose of static protection is to ensure that energy from electricity is diverted into the ground, which will remove the risk.

When transporting them, make sure the vehicle is in good condition. Since any undue force or friction can cause them to detonate, it is very important to make sure that the vehicle carrying the the chemical is properly maintained and is equipped with tarpaulins which are water proof and fire resistant.

The cargo vehicle carrying the equipment needs to be in good shape. Any unwarranted pressure or force on the device is liable to set it off. Especially if the roads are not well maintained, it is imperative that the vehicle carrying the equipment bounces as little as possible. It is also necessary to cover all devices with a tarpaulin that is not only fire resistant, but waterproof as well.

Not only will safe use and control of seismic explosives lessen the risk of detonation, but it will save the lives of your colleagues or any accidental victims. When dealing with these chemicals, it is never wise to play the ignorant card. Know whatever you can about it, if you are going to handle it.
