Homemade Dog Biscuits Your Dog Will Go Nuts For

By Juliette Crane

The best homemade dog biscuits are not those found in your supermarket, or even the pet store. Some of them may have the word "homemade" to entice you, but of course, homemade dog biscuits can really only be made in one place - in your home! And the best part is that they are pretty easy to make too. Here are some excellent dog food recipes you can try at home today.

I don't know if you know this but pooches just love the taste of peanut butter. I have often been bewildered with the many intricacies of the baking world but this recipe is fool proof, even for me. Combine 1 cup of whole wheat flour, 1 cup of all purpose flour, 1 cup milk, 2 tablespoons of honey and 2 tablespoons of oil with 1 cup of smooth and creamy peanut butter. Blend the mixture well and scoop into bite sized treats onto cookie sheets. Bake them for 20 minutes in 350 F and you have yourself the keys to Fido's heart.

Anyone up for delectable oatmeal chews? Take 1 cup of whole wheat flour, 1 tsp baking soda, 3 cups oatmeal, 2 tablespoons honey and mix it all together. Fold in 2 egg yolks and 1 cup of cold water to bind it all together. Ensure the smooth consistency of the batter. Bake this for 15 minutes in a 350 F temperature. Once these chews are sufficiently cooled; cut into bite size pieces for your dog's snacking pleasure.

Let us not forget our more aged dogs of course. As they get older their teeth become weaker and they will need soft food. This particular treat is chewable and soft, perfect for them. Combine 1 cup dry milk powder, 1 cup wheat germ, and 2 1 oz jars of beef or chicken flavored baby food. Knead them and form into little balls. Bake them for 15 minutes at 350 F until done.

Liver doesn't always sound like it should belong on our dinner plates but for canines; these are acceptable and great treats you can give. Chop and puree 1 lb of liver and blend this with 2 cups of cornmeal, 1 cup of flour and a dash of salt. Roll the mixture onto a cookie sheet and bake for 20 minutes in 350 F heat. After cooling, cut these up in small pieces and keep for reserved dog snacks.

If you are familiar with baking, feel free to change the ingredients to those that you know will appeal to your dog better. How about using apples, carrots and parsley for healthier options? Do the necessary research before coming up with your own dog food recipes though there are many ingredients that are harmful to canines when ingested. Examples of these are chocolate, onions, grapes and nuts.

Now wasn't that easy? Basically, we just learned how to put together some ingredients and prepare them in the simplest way possible. Not only that these are some of the yummiest treats there are. Polly can have her cracker. Fido will take his delicious homemade dog biscuits any day.
